When I was a law professor at New York Law School, the start of each academic year was invigorating. It was a time filled with possibilities; it brought a recurring flutter of activity as I prepared to teach my new and returning students. With the fall semester approaching, I usually paused to make what I’ve come to call a “teaching wish” – a wish that my students and I would be engaged in a wonderful, reciprocal learning process throughout the semester. I had another habit: When students settled into their seats on the first day of class, I always quieted the class down and began with these words – Ready? Let’s Go.
